Using HTML on deviantART
Hello!
Hello and welcome to my little html tutorial. I've been working with html codes for a couple of years and I'm going to teach you what I know about using some basic html on deviantART. This won't make you a html expert or something and I'm not an expert myself but it will give just enough knowledge to make your journals, comments, news articles and other neat and lovely looking. :)
deviantART actually has FAQs about html but I still wanted to do this because they look a bit unorganized, in my opinion. Also, why would you want to look for those FAQs when you can just open this news article where you have everything in one place? :dummy
Lore, original species logic and butt trauma by 5019, journal
Lore, original species logic and butt trauma
What attracts you the most in an original species?
For me, it is the lore. Really! Looks get my attention and all, but if there is no dept in lore I feel like all I have is a pretty doll. I absolutely adore to research biology and weird critters, seeing how far those can inspire people in making their things is really a great thing.
The three species I have really worked on - smoks, pigmy sphinxes and frutaformes - all have a somewhat big lore, smoks being the ones with the biggest lore because they are a completely different lifeform than blood based ones they needed explanation on everything >v>;
This said, I think
Now I want to make it clear that I'm none of these statements are aggressive, I'm simply trying to explain things how I see them, I am NOT angry and I'm not attacking anyone. The tone of this journal should be read in a calm voice, not an angry one.
Why do OS owners get so protective of their species designs?
Okay so tell me, have you ever tried to make a cohesive, unique original species? It's not the easiest thing in the world to make a species design that stands out from the rest, it IS a difficult thing to accomplish, and more often then not if the person is taking time to draw and develop a species, it's something they're attached to,
A small talk about pricing your art by vesner, journal
A small talk about pricing your art
You're creating art. You have the passion, you have the skills. Why not make some money out of it then? It's a good idea, right? A lot of people live from creating art, and even more earn some money on the side by taking commissions. You should give it a shot!
So... How much money is your art worth?
It's a hard question to answer for those who are just starting their adventure with selling and creating art for money. Is its worth equal to the price of the materials you used? Is it equal to the value of the time you've spent on creating it? What about the emotional value you put into it? Should your education influence your prices?

Best video resources for digital artists by vesner, journal
Best video resources for digital artists
Learning the theory without any practice is incredibly pointless when it comes to art. No book, no lecture and no video will ever teach you how to paint if you won't find the time for creating something yourself.
On the other hand, doing everything alone and without any instructions is the longest and hardest way of achieving anything. What's worse it doesn't guarantee you success.
Through the last couple of years I've been painting, I've learned that the best way for me to learn to paint is to copy techniques of people who know what they're doing. There's no better way doing it than watching videos with commentaries. That's why today I th
Uhg I'm so tired of seeing artists under selling themselves cause there's cheap asses out there who seem to have no sense of value.
To artists: Don't undersell yourself. If you spend hours on a picture for someone who only paid you $5... stop. Seriously you under selling yourself just to get a commission shouldn't happen. I understand that you might think you're not popular enough to get tons of commissions so you think that if you sell them for really cheap people will buy them, but who cares! If you spend 4 hours on a picture worth $5 you've essentially paid your commissioner with your life. You might as well open up requests! Charge what
Mkay this is getting very annoying. xD so I guess ill just put up my two cents when it comes to this issue.
long text is long
I am not here on deviantART for anyone, I do not draw to please anyone, nor am I here to be used as a feature machine
This rant obviously does not include trades, gifts or commissions xD
The biggest thing that irks me is that people think, just because a lot of people have decided to follow me, I somehow have a obligation to use that to "help" other artists with amazing art get recognized. This is bullshit. Its not my or anyone elses responsibility to make anyone get attention.
IF someone really wants attention,
A General Guide to Freelancing by celesse, journal
A General Guide to Freelancing
Hello all! Recently I've been getting a lot of notes and e-mails asking for suggestions and advice on how to get started with a career in freelance art, so I decided to go ahead and write up a general guide for it. Please note that this guide is based on my own personal experience and is not necessarily the right or the best way to do it. I also cannot guarantee success.
First off, let me say that freelance is not exactly the best choice for a career. It is very hard to make it as a freelance artist and a steady paycheck is never guaranteed. If you have no self dicipline, are prone to procrastination or cannot take direction well, it is
It's time to refresh the tutorial journal! Added some new ones and removed those which, after some time, I found a bit misleading.
Below you'll find a list of tutorials I personally think of as the best on dA. If I have any problems with painting something I usually take a look at one of those.
Is there anything you're having troubles with? Need help looking for a good tutorial? Or maybe you'd like to see a video walk-through of me painting something?
I'm open for suggestions for what kind of tutorial/walk-through you'd like to see from me. If you're interested in anything, post your suggestions in the comments!
